Rudolf G. Wagner

Rudolf G. Wagner (1941-2019) was a prominent German sinologist and Professor of Sinology at the University of Heidelberg, renowned for his expertise in classical Chinese philosophy, politics, culture, and transcultural studies. He earned his PhD from the University of Munich in 1969 and his Habilitation in 1981, held fellowships at Cornell, Harvard, and Berkeley, and received the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 1993. Wagner served as General Secretary and President of the European Association for Chinese Studies and co-directed the Cluster of Excellence 'Asia and Europe in a Global Context' at Heidelberg.
