Mark Thompson

Mark Thompson (1953-2016) was an American journalist, author, and LGBTQ+ activist best known for his two-decade tenure as senior editor at The Advocate, where he reported on culture and politics. He authored an influential trilogy on gay spirituality including Gay Spirit: Myth and Meaning (1987), Gay Soul, and Gay Body, as well as editing Long Road to Freedom: The Advocate History of the Gay and Lesbian Movement. Born and raised on California's Monterey Peninsula, he co-founded the Gay Students Coalition at San Francisco State University and remained a prominent voice in gay literature and activism until his death at age 63.[2][3][5]
