Joyce Carol Oates
Joyce Carol Oates is an acclaimed American novelist, short-story writer, essayist, poet, and playwright, known for her prolific output exceeding 58 novels, numerous short story collections, plays, poetry, and nonfiction since her debut in 1963.[1][3] Born in Lockport, New York, she graduated valedictorian from Syracuse University and earned an MA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, later teaching at institutions including Princeton University.[2][4] Her works often explore violence, evil, and hardships in American society, with notable books like *them* (National Book Award winner), *Blonde* (Pulitzer finalist), and *We Were the Mulvaneys* (Oprah's Book Club selection).[1][3][5]
