Rebecca Schwarts was born on the boat that brought her parents from Nazi Germany. When she was 13, her father killed her mother and nearly killed Rebecca, before killing himself. In adulthood, she marries an abusive man and has a son. After being nearly beaten to death, she escapes with her son, taking a new name and starting a new life.
