John Fowles
John Robert Fowles was an English novelist whose works combined psychological explorations of sex and love with social and philosophical themes, positioned between modernism and postmodernism and influenced by existentialists like Sartre and Camus.[1][2] Born in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, he studied French at Oxford, taught in Greece and elsewhere, and achieved success with his debut novel The Collector in 1963, followed by acclaimed works like The Magus and The French Lieutenant’s Woman.[1][4] He later settled in Lyme Regis, where he served as curator of the local museum.[5]
