Joanne Ryder
Joanne (Rose) Ryder, born in 1946 in Lake Hiawatha, New Jersey, is an award-winning American author of over seventy children's books focusing on nature, poetry, and science. She earned a B.A. in journalism from Marquette University in 1968, worked as a children's book editor at Harper & Row from 1970 to 1980, and became a full-time writer thereafter. Notable works include 'Fireflies,' 'The Snail's Spell,' 'When the Woods Hum,' and 'Little Panda,' often blending imaginative storytelling with observations of the natural world; she resides in Pacific Grove or nearby California.
