From School Library Journal PreSchool-Grade 2-- The essence of the anole is caught through a subtle blending of clear, lyrical text and vibrant illustrations. After suggesting that readers undergo an imaginary transformation into a tiny green lizard, the text then describes what it would be like to live as one for an entire day, briefly highlighting the physical sensations readers would experience while engaged in typical activities. Although the text is relatively sparse, much information is imparted about the behavior of the anole. This is due, primarily, to Ryder's grasp of imagery. An "Author's Note" expands somewhat upon the data offered on major physical and behavioral characteristics in the main text and mentions some of the factors involved in the reptile's color-changing mechanisms. Rothman's brightly painted two-page spreads (blues, greens, and browns predominate) convey a real sense of the animal's natural habitat and perfectly match the mood of the text. This third addition to the series will make a fine family read-aloud. --Karey Wehner, San Francisco Public LibraryCopyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.
