Ivana Brlic Mazuranic
Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić (1874–1938) was a renowned Croatian writer, best known for her children's literature including 'The Marvellous Adventures of Hlapić the Apprentice' (1913) and 'Croatian Tales of Long Ago' (1916), which drew on Slavic mythology and earned her comparisons to Hans Christian Andersen. Born into a prominent literary family in Ogulin, she married Vatroslav Brlić in 1892, raised seven children, and balanced family duties with her writing career, becoming the first female corresponding member of the Yugoslav Academy of Arts and Sciences in 1937. Nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature multiple times, her works remain popular and have been translated into many languages.
