George Evans
George Henry Evans (1805–1856) was a British-born American editor, publisher, printer, social reform advocate, and author who emigrated to the United States around 1823 and became a U.S. citizen that year. He created, published, and edited several newspapers for the National Reform Association, including the Working Man's Advocate (1829–1830), Radical (1841–1843), People's Rights (1844), Subterranean and the Working Man’s Advocate (1844), and Young America! (1845–1849), all in New York City or nearby areas. He authored History of the Origin and Progress of the Working Men’s Party (1842), served as chair and secretary of the National Reform Association (1844–1848), and was elected president of the National Reform State Convention in 1850.
