David L. Costill

David L. Costill, PhD, is an emeritus professor and the John and Janice Fisher Chair in Exercise Science at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he founded and directed the Human Performance Laboratory for over 32 years starting in 1966. A legendary figure in exercise physiology, he has authored or coauthored more than 430 publications, including six books, and served as the original editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Sports Medicine for 12 years. Costill is renowned for his research on athletic performance, muscle physiology, and environmental effects on exercise.
