Howard Zinn (1922–2010) was an American historian, author, professor, playwright, and activist who grew up in a working-class immigrant family in Brooklyn, served as a bombardier in World War II, and later taught at Spelman College and Boston University. He is best known for his influential book *A People's History of the United States*, which presents history from the perspective of ordinary people, and was a prominent voice against war and for civil rights. Zinn authored over 20 books and remained active in protests and social justice causes until his death.
