Alison Plowden

Alison Margaret Chichele Plowden was an English historian and biographer specializing in the women of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England, best known for her 'Elizabethan Quartet,' a four-volume biography of Queen Elizabeth I published between 1971 and 1980.[1][2] She began her career as a secretary at the BBC before turning to writing lively and enjoyable histories of Tudor women, including queens and commoners.[1][6] Plowden died of a cerebral hemorrhage at age 75.[1]
