Survival: A Story of Dieppe Prisoners of War

The lives of Canadians were tragically impacted by the absolute failure of the Dieppe Raid on August 19, 1942. It was the single worst day of WW2 for Canadians.. Far too many were killed, wounded or taken prisoner because of inadequate military intelligence, strategic planning, resources or support.. POW's languished in prison for over 2½ years before liberation at the end of the war. As victims of this doomed raid, official recognition to commemorate their sacrifice was painfully slow to be received.. Charlie Johnson was one such Dieppe veteran to suffer internment and endure the loss of close friends. After the war, his life-long efforts raised the awareness of Canadians and gave surviving Dieppe veterans the opportunity to be honoured, remembered and thanked for their service.
