Review Life in the small town of Cedar Green, outside of Oxford, England, is neither staid nor scandal-free as seen through the eyes of Edie Fisher, a daily domestic for many of the wealthy families, and solicitor John Paynter. Edie witnesses the loss of a local home to real-estate developers who have a connection to one of her friends from grade school. She is very happy that her friend, who is now a doctor, will be moving to town, though she is reluctant to gossip about the current owner of the house. Edie is pleased with her life and glad that she moved to the country from London. John Paynter, a widower with a teenage daughter, is a very solid man who is much sought after by the single women, whom he ignores until a divorcée shows up in his office seeking advice about starting an antique business on the village square. Boucheron gives her readers a wonderful slice of English country life sure to please gentle readers and Anglophiles alike. --Booklist, 15th October 2008 About the Author Rose Boucheron lives near the famous Eton College, in Berkshire.
