From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 3-Hannah already has a little brother, so she tries positive thinking to ensure that the baby her mother is expecting will be a girl. She has decided in advance what her sister will look like, what they will do together, and what her first word will be ("Hannah"). The girl's parents gently warn her that she may be setting herself up for disappointment. When she learns that the baby is a boy, her dismay is realistic; however, when she gets to hold the newborn, she decides that "he's pretty cute for a baby brother." This loving family is warmly portrayed in both the text and in the cheerful, childlike paintings with Russo's signature use of flat areas of color and pattern. Hannah's own birth has been lovingly chronicled in Waiting for Hannah (Greenwillow, 1989), and her reappearance as she adjusts to her new sibling is welcome.
