Yael van der Wouden

Yael van der Wouden (born 1987) is a Dutch-Israeli writer and teacher known for her debut novel *The Safekeep* (2024), which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and won the Women's Prize for Fiction in 2025.[1][2][3] Born in Tel Aviv to an Israeli mother and Dutch father, she studied comparative literature at Utrecht University and SUNY Binghamton, and teaches creative writing and comparative literature in the Netherlands.[1][2][3] She has also written essays, including 'On (Not) Reading Anne Frank,' which received a notable mention in *The Best American Essays 2018*.[3]
