Wj Van Bekkum

Wouter Jacques 'Wout' van Bekkum (born 21 May 1954) is a Dutch professor emeritus of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Groningen, specializing in Semitic languages and cultures, particularly Hebrew poetry from Late Antiquity to pre-modern times. He earned his Ph.D. in Humanities (Medieval Hebrew Poetry) in 1988, served as lecturer from 1988-2000, and was full professor of Semitic Languages and Cultures from 2000-2011, later renamed Middle Eastern Studies until 2020.
