William Wetmore Story

William Wetmore Story (1819–1895) was an American sculptor, poet, art critic, and editor, best known for his neoclassical sculptures like Cleopatra, which gained fame through Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Marble Faun. Son of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, he graduated from Harvard in 1838, practiced law briefly, then moved to Rome in the 1850s, where he became a central figure in the expatriate artist community and remained until his death.
