William W Momyer
General William W. Momyer, known as 'Spike,' was a distinguished U.S. Air Force tactician and leader who commanded the 33rd Fighter Group in World War II, achieving eight aerial victories and earning the Distinguished Service Cross and multiple Silver Stars. He served as commander of the Seventh Air Force in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968, shaping air doctrine including priorities for air superiority, interdiction, and close air support. Retiring as a four-star general in 1973, he authored 'Air Power in Three Wars' detailing his experiences across WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
