William Stanley

William Stanley, 6th Earl of Derby (1561–1642), was an English nobleman, writer, and patron of the theatre who has been proposed by some theorists as the true author of William Shakespeare's plays. His own literary works are largely lost or unidentified, but he is recognized for his contributions to Elizabethan drama and his role as a supporter of the arts.
