William Robertson

William Robertson (1721-1793) was a Scottish Presbyterian minister, historian, and Principal of the University of Edinburgh from 1762 to 1793, playing a key role in the Scottish Enlightenment. He authored influential works including *History of Scotland* (1759), *History of the Reign of the Emperor Charles V* (1769), and *History of America* (1777), establishing himself as one of the 18th century's foremost British historians alongside David Hume and Edward Gibbon.[1][2][4]
