William Matthews
William Matthews was an acclaimed American poet and essayist born in Cincinnati, Ohio, who earned degrees from Yale University and the University of North Carolina. He published over a dozen books of poetry and won the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1996 for Time and Money, as well as the Ruth Lilly Award in 1997. At the time of his death, he was a professor of English and director of the Creative Writing Program at City College of New York.
