William Kamkwamba
William Kamkwamba is a Malawian inventor, engineer, and author born on August 5, 1987, in Dowa, Malawi, who gained international fame at age 14 by building a windmill from scrap materials to power his family's home during a famine.[1][2] He co-authored the memoir *The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind* in 2009, which became a bestseller and was adapted into a film, and founded the Moving Windmills Project to support education and infrastructure in Malawi.[1][4] Kamkwamba graduated from Dartmouth College in 2014 with a degree in environmental studies and continues working on sustainable development initiatives.[4]
