William Gilman
William Gilman Thompson was an American physician, dietitian, and medical writer who served as a visiting physician at multiple New York hospitals and held professorships in physiology, materia medica, therapeutics, and medicine at institutions including New York University, Bellevue Medical School, New York Medical College for Women, and Cornell University Medical College, retiring as professor emeritus. He founded and presided over the New York Clinic for the Functional Re-education of Disabled Soldiers, Sailors, and Civilians, later renamed Reconstruction Hospital, and was also President of the New York Botanical Garden. Thompson authored numerous medical books and at least 122 journal articles, some of which remained in use for teaching into the 21st century.
