William G. Bowen

William G. Bowen was President of Princeton University from 1972 to 1988, where he served as professor of economics and public affairs and oversaw academic growth, coeducation, and diversification efforts.[1][2][4] He then led The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as president from 1988 to 2006, authoring or co-authoring over 20 books on higher education topics and founding initiatives like JSTOR and ARTstor.[1][2][3][5] A influential figure in American higher education, he received the National Humanities Medal in 2012 and was recognized for his scholarship and leadership until his passing.[2][6]
