William Francis Patrick Napier
Sir William Francis Patrick Napier (1785–1860) was a British Army general and military historian who served in the Napoleonic Wars, particularly the Peninsular War, participating in major battles such as Fuentes de Oñoro, Salamanca, Nivelle, and Nive, where he was wounded multiple times.[1][2] He retired in 1819 and authored the acclaimed six-volume History of the War in the Peninsula and South of France (1828–40), drawing on his experiences and materials from the Duke of Wellington and Marshal Soult.[1][3] Later, he served as lieutenant-governor of Guernsey (1842–1847) and continued writing military histories until his death.[2][3]
