William Dampier

William Dampier (1651–1715) was an English seaman, explorer, privateer, and naturalist who became the first Englishman to explore parts of present-day Australia and the first person to circumnavigate the globe three times. He is also remembered as an important early travel writer whose popular accounts helped shape European knowledge of the wider world.
