William 1870-1952 Roughead
William Roughead (1870–1952) was a Scottish lawyer and amateur criminologist who became an important early practitioner of the modern true crime literary genre. Between 1889 and 1949, he attended every significant murder trial held in the High Court of Justiciary in Edinburgh, publishing his accounts in a series of best-selling books that were infused with legal expertise, delight, and outrage at obvious wrongs.
