Warren Montag

Warren Montag is a Louis M. Brown Family Professor of Literature in English at Occidental College, where he has taught since 1987 after starting as an adjunct in 1982, specializing in 18th-century British and European literature, political philosophy, and 20th-century European critical theory, including thinkers like Spinoza, Hobbes, and Althusser. He is the editor of Décalages: a Journal of Althusser Studies and author of books such as Bodies, Masses, Power: Spinoza and his Contemporaries. Montag, an activist since his high school walkout against the Vietnam War in 1969, retired after a 40-year teaching career in 2025.
