W. Richard Stevens

W. Richard Stevens (1951–1999) was an American author renowned for his influential computer science books on Unix and TCP/IP, including 'UNIX Network Programming,' 'Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment,' and the 'TCP/IP Illustrated' series.[1][2] Born in Luanshya, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia), where his father worked in the copper industry, he worked in operating systems, astronomy at Kitt Peak National Observatory, and health-care software before becoming a full-time author and consultant in Tucson since 1990.[1][5] He also co-authored RFC documents for the Internet Engineering Task Force and was a sought-after instructor.[1]
