W. Arber

Werner Arber is a Swiss microbiologist and geneticist who, along with Daniel Nathans and Hamilton O. Smith, received the 1978 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of restriction enzymes and their application to molecular genetics. Born in Gränichen, Switzerland, Arber earned his Ph.D. in biophysics from the University of Geneva and has been a prominent figure in microbial genetics and the study of genetic variation.
