Victor Duruy
Victor Duruy (1811–1894) was a French historian and statesman who served as minister of public instruction under Napoleon III from 1863–69. He championed educational reforms including free obligatory elementary education, secular secondary education for girls, and the modernization of curricula. His most renowned work is his seven-volume Histoire des Romans (1870–85), and he was elected to the French Academy in 1884.
