Victor Canning
Victor Canning was a prolific British writer of novels and thrillers who flourished in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, beginning his career with short stories sold by age nineteen and his debut novel *Mr Finchley Discovers His England* (1934), a runaway bestseller. He authored over fifty novels, including adventure, espionage, and mystery works, often compared to authors like Eric Ambler and Ian Fleming, and also wrote for children with his *The Runaways* trilogy. Married to Phyllis McEwen in 1935, he had three daughters and remained personally reticent, avoiding memoirs and rare interviews.
