Varian Johnson
Varian Johnson is an American author of middle-grade and young adult novels, including award-winning titles like The Parker Inheritance, which received Coretta Scott King Author Honor and Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor awards, and The Great Greene Heist, an ALA Notable Children’s Book.[2][3][5] Born in Florence, South Carolina, in 1977, he holds a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Oklahoma and an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults from Vermont College of Fine Arts, where he now serves on the faculty; he also works as a civil engineer.[1][2][7] A twin and father of two daughters, Johnson lives outside Austin, Texas, and is a co-founder of The Brown Bookshelf, promoting African American children's book creators.[3][7]
