Unity Dow

Unity Dow is a Motswana lawyer, human rights activist, author, judge, and politician who became Botswana's first female High Court Judge in 1997 after successfully challenging citizenship laws discriminating against children of Botswanan mothers in the landmark 1992 case Attorney General of Botswana v Unity Dow. She founded the country's first all-women law firm, served in government roles including Minister of Foreign Affairs, and has been a Member of Parliament for Kgatleng West since November 2024. Her writings address gender issues, public health, indigenous rights, and conflicts between Western and traditional African values.[2][5][7]
