United States Strategic Bombing Survey

The United States Strategic Bombing Survey (USSBS) was a civilian-led board of experts established by the Secretary of War on November 3, 1944, pursuant to a directive from President Franklin D. Roosevelt, to conduct an impartial assessment of the effects of Allied strategic bombing on Nazi Germany and later Japan.[1][2] Chaired by Franklin D’Olier with directors including Paul H. Nitze, John K. Galbraith, and others, it operated from London and forward headquarters in Germany and Japan, producing detailed reports in 1945-1946 evaluating air power's role in military strategy.[1][5]
