Timothy C. Walker

Dr. Timothy C. Walker is a professor of history at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, specializing in early modern Europe, colonial expansion, and maritime history, with a focus on Portuguese overseas colonization. He authored the 2021 book 'Sailing to Freedom,' which explores the maritime routes of the Underground Railroad and how enslaved people escaped the Deep South by sea to reach free states. Trained at Boston University (PhD 2001), he has contributed to research on New England's role in abolitionism and whaling history.
