Thos. O. Summers

Thomas Osmond Summers (1812–1882) was an English-born American Methodist theologian, clergyman, hymnist, editor, and professor, considered one of the leading Methodist theologians of the nineteenth century.[1][2] Born in Dorset, England, he emigrated to America, joined the Methodist Baltimore Conference in 1835, served as a missionary in Texas, and later held positions at Vanderbilt University while editing numerous publications including over 500 books on topics from church history to medicine.[1][2] He chaired the Hymn Book Committee of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and contributed to works like Songs of Zion (1851).[2]
