Theo Vennemann

Theo Vennemann genannt Nierfeld is a German linguist renowned for his work in historical linguistics, particularly his controversial theories proposing a Vasconic substratum and an Atlantic superstratum in European languages.[1][4] He has also argued that the High German consonant shift occurred as early as the 1st century BC, challenging the mainstream view of the 9th century AD.[1] Vennemann studied at universities in Göttingen and Marburg in Germany, spent time at the Linguistic Research Center in Texas, and later worked in Munich.[3][4]
