The Michelin Tourist Services

The Michelin Tourist Services was the travel and publishing arm associated with Michelin, the French tire company, created to encourage motorists to travel more and, in turn, increase tire wear and sales. It is best known for producing the Michelin Guide, first published in 1900, which later became one of the world’s most influential hotel and restaurant guides and the basis for the Michelin star rating system.
