The Honorable Richard A. Posner

Richard A. Posner is an influential American legal scholar, author, and retired judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit (1981-2017), where he served as chief judge from 1993 to 2000. A pioneer in law and economics, he taught at Stanford and the University of Chicago Law School, founded the Journal of Legal Studies, and authored numerous books on topics including jurisprudence, pragmatism, and economic analysis of law. Nominated by President Reagan, Posner is widely regarded as one of the most prolific and impactful legal thinkers of his era.
