The Earl of Chesterfield
Philip Dormer Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield (1694-1773), was a prominent British statesman, diplomat, and writer known for his emphasis on courtly manners and social etiquette. He held key positions including ambassador to The Hague, Secretary of State, and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, and succeeded as the fourth earl in 1726. He is best remembered for his 'Letters to His Son,' published posthumously, which offered advice on manners, morals, and success in society.
