Tato Laviera was a renowned Nuyorican poet, playwright, and community activist known for blending English and Spanish to explore themes of immigration, transcultural identity, and Puerto Rican heritage in the United States. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, he moved to New York City at age ten and became a leading voice of the Nuyorican movement, authoring acclaimed works like 'AmeRícan' and 'La Carreta Made a U-Turn'.
