Sweet Honey in the Rock
Sweet Honey in the Rock is an all-woman, African-American a cappella ensemble founded in 1973 by Bernice Johnson Reagon from singers in a vocal workshop with the D.C. Black Repertory Company.[1][2] The group, active for over 50 years, performs music rooted in spirituals, jazz, blues, hymns, and contemporary styles, addressing Black identity, social justice, and Civil Rights themes.[3][4][6] Reagon directed the ensemble from 1973 until 2003, and it has released numerous albums, earning three Grammy nominations.[2]
