Susanna Clarke

Susanna Clarke is an English author best known for her debut novel Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell (2004), an award-winning alternative history fantasy that became a bestseller. Born in Nottingham as the eldest daughter of a Methodist minister, she studied philosophy, politics, and economics at St Hilda’s College, Oxford, worked in publishing and taught English abroad before completing her breakthrough work. Her later publications include the short story collection The Ladies of Grace Adieu and Other Stories (2006) and the acclaimed novel Piranesi.
