Susan Stockdale

Susan Stockdale is an acclaimed author and illustrator of children's picture books celebrating nature, such as Bring On the Birds, Fabulous Fishes, and Stripes of All Types, which have received awards including ALSC Notable Picture Book and NSTA Outstanding Science Trade Book.[1][2] She grew up in Coral Gables, Florida, as the youngest of five children, surrounded by lush vegetation and wildlife, and later studied art at Occidental College in Los Angeles.[3] Beginning her career as a painter of fantasy landscapes and a textile designer, she transitioned to children's books with titles like Some Sleep Standing Up, with her latest, Don't Eat the Cleaners!, published in 2025.[1][3][6]
