Subcomandante Marcos, also known as Rafael Sebastián Guillén Vicente, is a Mexican writer and political activist best known as the spokesperson and military leader of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (EZLN). He became internationally recognized after the EZLN uprising in Chiapas began on January 1, 1994, and later became known for political writings, essays, novels, and poetry. [2][1]
