Stu Schwartz

Stuart B. Schwartz is the George Burton Adams Professor Emeritus of History at Yale University, specializing in colonial Latin America, Brazil, slavery, religion, and early modern expansion.[1][2] He earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1968 and has authored or edited 19 books and over 100 scholarly articles, including award-winning monographs that received prizes like the inaugural Cundill International Prize in History.[2][3] In 2000, he was awarded Brazil’s highest honor for foreigners, comendador da Ordem do Cruzeiro do Sul, for his contributions to Brazilian history.[4]
