Stephen Whitney

Stephen Whitney (1776–1860) was an American merchant and one of the wealthiest businessmen in New York City during the first half of the 19th century. Born in Derby, Connecticut, he amassed a large fortune and helped support major New York institutions, including the Merchants' Exchange Building, the first permanent home of the New York Stock Exchange.
