Stephen Abbott
Stephen Eugene Abbott (1943-1992) was a poet, critic, editor, novelist, political activist, and single gay father central to the San Francisco Bay Area literary scene in the 1970s and 1980s.[1][2][3] He co-edited Poetry Flash, produced the influential journal Soup, coined the term 'New Narrative' for writers like Robert Gluck and Bruce Boone, and authored books including Wrecked Hearts, Lives of the Poets, and View Askew.[1][3] Abbott moved to San Francisco in 1973 or 1974, promoted queer and experimental writing, and died from AIDS-related illness.[5][6]
